According to the European Rubber Journal, the European Commission issued a directive to reduce the concentration limit of PAHs from the current 100mg / kg to 20mg / kg. PAHs are mostly used as particles and covers of artificial lawn or amusement park filling materials. The policy is expected to be implemented from August 10, 2022. This restriction does not immediately affect existing artificial lawns, but applies to any refilling and new particle filling materials.

This restriction is designed to ensure that the risk of cancer remains low for people exposed to particles and coverings of chemicals (through inhalation and skin contact). These include athletes, children playing on the court or playground, and workers who install and maintain these venues.
